What is MRT

MRT (also called Muscle Response Testing or kinesiology) is a diagnostic technique that is useful in determining the nutritional needs of the body. Applied Kinesiology is currently being used by many healing disciplines: medical doctors, acupuncturists, chiropractors, naturopaths, osteopaths, holistic dentists, veterinarians and other practitioners.

MRT was developed in l964 by Dr.George Goodheart, DC. This technique allowed muscles to be tested for clinical and diagnostic purposes, not just to determine muscle strength. MRT was derived from the ancient art of Acupuncture, which was developed by the Chinese between 3000 and 25 BC.

The practitioner gently pushes down on the patient’s extended arm which is resisting the downward pressure. There are nutritional and organ points all over the body as with Acupuncture and Acupressure points. Touching a point that is experiencing a problem will cause a short circuit in the energy or nervous field and the arm will go weak. Once the weak points are located, MRT can then be used to find out what the body or mind will respond to in terms of a resolution to the problem.

Another important benefit of MRT is that it can show problem areas that are developing but would not be symptomatic yet. Thus, preventive care can be taken to resolve the problem areas.

How Does it Work?

The body has within it and surrounding it an electrical network or grid. If anything impacts your electrical system that does not maintain or enhance your health and your body’s balance, your muscles, when having physical pressure applied, are unable to hold their strength. (Muscle power is directly linked to the balance of the electrical system.) In other words, if pressure is applied to an individual’s extended arm while his body’s electrical system is being adversely affected, the muscles will weaken and the arm will not be able to resist the pressure. The circuits of the electrical system are overloaded or have short-circuited, causing a weakening of that system. However, if pressure is applied while his electrical system is being positively affected, the circuits remain strong, balanced and capable of fully functioning throughout the body. The muscles will remain strong, the person will easily resist and the arm will hold its position.

This electrical/muscular relationship is a natural part of the human system. It is not mystical or magical. MRT is the established method for reading the body’s balance through the balance of the electrical system at any given moment.

Barbara Myers, ND testimonials

Several weeks ago I was was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis/Painful Bladder Syndrome, but several months before I received my official diagnosis I came to Barbara Myers ND, MH, CNC with what was the suspected diagnosis above. I had been in a full blown flair for almost six weeks at that point and the pain was excruciating. I had tried everything and nothing was really working to ease the pain and discomfort.I finally made the decision to stop in and talk Barbara because she had never steered me wrong before and had made very good recommendations for helping me with insomnia and over all health in the past.

After describing what I was feeling and telling her what the suspected diagnosis was she recommended that I start taking Glucosamine and Chrondriotin w/ Hyaluronic Acid to help rebuild the lining of my bladder and urethra and to start taking Curamin Extra Strength to ease the pain and inflammation the IC/PBS was causing me. I started taking the combination immediately. The Curamin helped within hours with the pain and in about seventy two hours I found that not only was the pain subsiding but the bloating, burning and nausea was starting to subside. A week later the flair had been eased completely.

When I told my Urologist what I had been taking to help my condition she told me that Barbara had done the best thing for me, that she would have prescribed Hyaluronic Acid for me but the prescription version would cause me to have major hair loss and usually took about six weeks to become effective. She told me if it was working to for me I should continue to take it. Obviously since it was working and I am not loosing my hair I am going to continue to take the natural version that Barbara advised me to take.

I can not thank Barbara enough, it has been one thing to advise for sleep issues and general health, but to receive such extraordinary advice for what is going to be a lifetime health issue has been amazing.

Barbara once again thank your for your advice and listening to me, after having been misdiagnosed or told that this was in my head since I was in my early twenties I can not thank you enough for your help. I finally feel like I can get back to a normal life now and that when I have flairs I have an alternative to the prescriptions or OTC medications that don’t really work or leave me sick to my stomach.

Certainly you can purchase health foods and supplements from one of the box store providers and you may even save a penny or two. However, who are you really purchasing your products from? In many cases, the person behind the counter has little if any advanced knowledge about the product, let alone how it might either help or hurt you. Barbara Myers and her WIllow Health Food store is not that person or business. Not only is she a Jin Shin Jyutsu Practitioner and a Certified Nutritional Counselor, Barbara is certified as a Natural Health Professional and a Naturopathic Doctor. So when she offers advice, it comes with the knowledge of someone who has studied, mastered and has been certified in her profession. It may mean the difference between wasting money or getting the help you really need.

Homemade Laundry Soap

I got this recipe somewhere on the internet many years ago and have been using since then.

download the pdf

Make in a 5 Gallon bucket you can buy at Home Depot or Lowes.
INGREDIENTS:
Water
1 or 2 large bar(s) of soap (I use Fels Napha)
1 cup Borax
1 cup of Washing Soda (Sodium carbonate)
DIRECTIONS:
Grate the soap and place in a double boiler. Cover the grated soap with
hot water and heat until the soap is melted into the water. This could take
some time, so be patient.
When the soap is melted, put about one gallon of very hot water into the
5 gallon bucket. Stir in the melted soap, the borax and the washing soda.
Stir until mixed thoroughly. Continue adding hot water to the mixture until
you have approximately 5 gallons. Cover and the Laundry Soap is ready to
use. As it sits overnight it will gel up. Use about 1 – 2 cups per wash load.

Fire Cider

This recipe is from Rosemary Gladstar, herbalist

  • ½ cup grated fresh horseradish root
  • ½ cup or more fresh chopped onions
  • ¼ cup or more chopped garlic
  • ¼ cup or more grated ginger
  • Chopped fresh or dried cayenne pepper ‘to taste’. Can be whole or powdered.  ‘ To Taste’ means should be hot, but not so hot you can’t tolerate it.  Better to make it a little milder than to hot; you can always add more pepper later if necessary.
  • Optional ingredients; Turmeric, Echinacea, cinnamon, etc.
  1. Place herbs in a half-gallon canning jar and cover with enough raw unpasteurized apple cider vinegar to cover the herbs by at least three to four inches.  Cover tightly with a tight fitting lid.
  2. Place jar in a warm place and let for three to four weeks.  Best to shake every day to help in the maceration process.
  3. After three to four weeks, strain out the herbs, and reserve the liquid.
  4. Add honey ‘to taste’.  Warm the honey first so it mixes in well.  “To Taste’ means your Fire Cider should taste hot, spicy, and sweet.  “A little bit of honey helps the medicine go down……”
  5. Rebottle and enjoy!  Fire Cider will keep for several months unrefrigerated if stored in a cool pantry.   But it’s better to store in the refrigerator if you’ve room.

A small shot glass daily serves as an excellent tonic Or take teaspoons if you feel a cold coming on.

Take it more frequently if necessary to help your immune system do battle.
