This is a cold process soap recipe which makes 1 pound of soap or (4) 4 oz bars.  If you have never make cold process soap I would strongly suggest you take a class first before you start making it yourself.  Handling lye is a dangerous and you should always be extremely careful handling lye.  I recommend rubber gloves, an apron and protective glasses while handling lye.

Willow Health has HOW TO MAKE SOAP classes every month.  Check out our calendar of events.

Homemade Laundry Soap

I got this recipe somewhere on the internet many years ago and have been using since then.

download the pdf

Make in a 5 Gallon bucket you can buy at Home Depot or Lowes.
INGREDIENTS:
Water
1 or 2 large bar(s) of soap (I use Fels Napha)
1 cup Borax
1 cup of Washing Soda (Sodium carbonate)
DIRECTIONS:
Grate the soap and place in a double boiler. Cover the grated soap with
hot water and heat until the soap is melted into the water. This could take
some time, so be patient.
When the soap is melted, put about one gallon of very hot water into the
5 gallon bucket. Stir in the melted soap, the borax and the washing soda.
Stir until mixed thoroughly. Continue adding hot water to the mixture until
you have approximately 5 gallons. Cover and the Laundry Soap is ready to
use. As it sits overnight it will gel up. Use about 1 – 2 cups per wash load.

Dandyblend bulletproof morning drink

There has been a popular coffee based diet called Bulletproof that has gained much attention. Among Bulletproof coffee’s listed benefits: It triggers weight loss by way of ketosis, a metabolic state triggered by a lack of carbs that kicks fat-burning into overdrive; it kills pesky cravings; and it boosts cognitive function.

We’ve created a variation of the “Bulletproof” Weight Loss Recipe replacing coffee with the very popular Dandy Blend coffee substitute health beverage. Why Dandy Blend instead of coffee? Dandy Blend tastes a lot like coffee and it’s acid free, caffeine free and gluten free.  It also contains dandelions which are known for their ability to cleanse the liver, detoxify and purify the blood.

All these ingredients are available at Willow Health Food & Wellness Center…with the exception of the grass fed butter.

Fire Cider

This recipe is from Rosemary Gladstar, herbalist

  • ½ cup grated fresh horseradish root
  • ½ cup or more fresh chopped onions
  • ¼ cup or more chopped garlic
  • ¼ cup or more grated ginger
  • Chopped fresh or dried cayenne pepper ‘to taste’. Can be whole or powdered.  ‘ To Taste’ means should be hot, but not so hot you can’t tolerate it.  Better to make it a little milder than to hot; you can always add more pepper later if necessary.
  • Optional ingredients; Turmeric, Echinacea, cinnamon, etc.
  1. Place herbs in a half-gallon canning jar and cover with enough raw unpasteurized apple cider vinegar to cover the herbs by at least three to four inches.  Cover tightly with a tight fitting lid.
  2. Place jar in a warm place and let for three to four weeks.  Best to shake every day to help in the maceration process.
  3. After three to four weeks, strain out the herbs, and reserve the liquid.
  4. Add honey ‘to taste’.  Warm the honey first so it mixes in well.  “To Taste’ means your Fire Cider should taste hot, spicy, and sweet.  “A little bit of honey helps the medicine go down……”
  5. Rebottle and enjoy!  Fire Cider will keep for several months unrefrigerated if stored in a cool pantry.   But it’s better to store in the refrigerator if you’ve room.

A small shot glass daily serves as an excellent tonic Or take teaspoons if you feel a cold coming on.

Take it more frequently if necessary to help your immune system do battle.

Golden milk

Golden milk or tea is a nourishing and healing drink that contains powdered Tumeric, Cinnamon, Ginger and honey.  Black pepper or Cayenne can be added as well.

We are going to just give you the basic recipe and you can make it yourself to your own taste.

All these ingredients are available at Willow Health Food & Wellness Center.

  • To make approximately a quart of Golden milk, use a quart of a liquid such as water, almond milk, coconut milk or a combination of these such as 16 oz. coconut milk and 16 oz. water.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of powdered Tumeric
  • 1 teaspoon of powdered Ginger or fresh Ginger
  • 1 teaspoon of powdered Cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1/8 teaspoon of cayenne pepper or black pepper (optional)

Rosehip Syrup

Rosehips are the seeds pods of certain varieties of Roses.  They are also an excellent source of vitamin C, having 50% more vitamin c then an orange.  This syrup is great for colds, sore throats, kidney ailments and it tastes great over pancakes or French toast.   Rosehip seed oil is an healing and therapeutic oil for the skin.

All these ingredients are available at Willow Health Food & Wellness Center.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fresh or 1/2 cup dried Rose hips. If they are fresh, cut in half and remove the seeds.
  • 3 cups water
  • ½ cup raw local honey (You can add more or less. Make it to your taste.)

Directions:

Bring to a boil and then transfer immediately to a thermos and allow to steep overnight. Vitamin C breaks down as the Rose hips are heated and boiled so we want them to only come to a boil and then transfer them.

When done steeping overnight, strain the Rose hips out of the syrup and place the syrup back in a sauce pan. Add the honey and heat gently until the honey is dissolved. Store in a refrigerator. It should last a few months refrigerated.
